A Successful Coffee Shop Needs The Right Location

by Karyn Lewis

Don’t be in a hurry to decide on the location for your coffee shop! You want this decision to be based on solid information that can ensure you will do well. There’s plenty of risk in any type of business so reducing it will be to your benefit. Even though there is no shortage of consumers looking for coffee, where you’re located can determine if they buy it from you or some place else.

People aren’t going to go out of their way every day to get to your coffee shop. Don’t fool yourself into thinking they’ll do so due to the quality of what you offer. People simply don’t have the time to do that these days. This will end up being a recipe for failure. You’ve to be able to identify what is going on in certain areas. What will bring people there anyway and then they have the ability to add going to your coffee shop along the way?

Even if you’re in a prime part of town, it can still be hard for people to get to your coffee shop. Think about the flow of traffic in that area. If it is difficult to get across the road or to get back into the stream of traffic after getting off them people aren’t going to do it. That cup of coffee isn’t worth being late to work or stressing out about the traffic day after day.

It isn’t just the traffic for automobiles you need to look at either. Foot traffic is important to coffee shop businesses. You should be within walking distance of many types of businesses. That way you’ll see people coming in before work and even during their breaks. Being able to offer such services swiftly for those that need some coffee to get through the day is important.

You need to evaluate the various coffee shops that are already around too. Hopefully you did this before you decided to start a coffee shop. Where are the all located at? You want to choose a location where you’ll get business but where you aren’t on top of another coffee shop. Try to have your own radius that makes you the most convenient location for a big number of people.

If there’s another coffee shop just a few blocks away then you will have some competition going on. Some will enjoy that walk to get some exercise as they go after a cup of coffee. Some will try both locations and stick with the one that serves them the best drinks. You want to do all you can though to keep people coming your direction so pay attention to the flow of foot traffic.

Don’t be in a rush to sure an empty building in a given area though. You want to make sure that the previous business didn’t end due to the location not being a success for them. Get some history on what has been in business there and how well they did. If you see lots of shut up businesses in that general area then it likely isn’t the place to put your coffee shop.

There are lots of issues to take into consideration before you choose a coffee shop. The more planning you do initially the superior off you’ll be. Don’t put all of your time and effort into opening such a business and then realize it isn’t in a good enough location to get the volume of business you need to be a success.
