Painless Vehicle Insurance Claims

by Steve Johnson

Having driven for many years, I’ve found myself in the position of filing a automobile insurance claim once and a while. The most current claims I have had to file have been due to hitting a deer. I felt sorry that the animal had to die, but I also felt sorry for myself, after seeing the damage that had occurred.

Sometimes, especially when it was my fault, I felt a lot of stress when I submitted a vehicle insurance claim. The person who I talked to, usually on the phone, wanted to know all of the details. You’ll find that you’re often stressing about which piece of information that you give them will result in a rise in your premiums, a cancelled policy, or a fit of laughter from the other end of the phone.

When I file a claim I find that the agent is very helpful and sympathetic. This makes it painless to file a claim. They are the first to ask me if everyone involved is ok.

The claim process generally goes more smoothly when you contact your local agent first. You still may end up having to dial the 1-800 number to the insurance company’s claims office but your local agent will generally be happy to advise you on what information will be expected from you and how to present it.

When another person and their automobile is part of the process, things might get a bit more complicated. This is when every single bit of information that you can muster is important. This information includes timing, place, your story of what happened, names of any people or witnesses involved, the types of cars involved, license plates, and any conditions.

You’ll want your automobile insurance company to be on your side when you file a car insurance claim, despite who was at fault in the accident. You should be as honest as you can and give them every bit of information. This will help them process your claim.

Most of what I’ve talked about here has been related to what you need to do to make filing a claim simple and painless. If you are shopping for automobile insurance for the very first time, you will be looking for an idea of coverage, premiums, and customer service. In the old days you had to look at advertisements and make numerous calls in order to get information. Today you can find lots of information online, even automobile insurance quotes.

The first thing that you need to do when you want a free car insurance quote is to do a search in any search engine. If you’re concerned about customer service, then you should speak to other people. You can find out how other people have been treated by speaking to them. Thus, by using the web and speaking to others, you can make a decision on a company that will make claim filing painless.
