How to Write Good Headlines for Business

October 16, 2008

Headlines are very important in Advertising

Here, you will learn how to write headlines for your business.

First, get out some paper and a pencil and start by doing the following. Ask yourself this. “What are the primary reasons your customers desire your product or service? In other words, what is the main benefit or advantage, result or improvement or reduction or avoidance or advantage they end up receiving or getting when they use your product service or business?

You should have multiple answers to this question. When you get them, rank them by the most valuable and the most frequently desired.

How many ways can you measure or compare the effect or benefit your product or service for a customer? Write as many as you can on a sheet of paper.
Now go over each one of the key elements I shared with you and apply it by adapting it to your situation.

For example, pick out a few of the words that work wonders, and try adding them to the advantage your product or service generates. Example, how to rid yourself of stress overnight … announcing a way to get twice the productivity out of every hour you drive to work. “Amazing discovery, get the job of three people done for the cost of just one,” etc.

Take each one of these “wonder words” and write your powerful headline.
Do the same thing with the tested “key word,” ensuring you write each statement or cluster of thoughts down separately.

Don’t stop now as the fun has just begun.

An important word about your return on investment.
Great copywriters and top sales trainers spend days… sometimes weeks… laboring over the details of a headline or opening statement for an ad, letter or sales presentation.

Why?

Because, those “pros” know how much of pay-off this process produces. Don’t limit yourself to writing just a single headline. The top copywriters would write no less than 100 different approaches before they kicked out the three to five best, most powerful selections they would test out. You shouldnt settle for anything less. The more opening propositions you write, the more this mind set will become your own.

If it’s a little uncomfortable at the beginning, that’s perfectly normal. Try this method, when you are stuck, ask yourself to fill in the blank describing the incredibly powerful result your product or service produces. If you were talking to a customer about this result you’d be telling them how to what? Once you fill in the blank with your answer to the result your product or service, you have written your first good headline so keep going!

Press Release Checklist: Are You Getting The Most From Your PR?

August 14, 2008

by Theo McLanahan

A press release is an excellent way to gain publicity and exposure for your business. A press release is a document containing information that you would like a media organization to feature, such as general information about your business, a special event that you are holding, or a special incentive you are offering.

You business will gain lots of great public exposure when it is mentioned in a magazine, newspaper, or other media source that is readily available to the public. Links to online media stories or clippings from newspapers can be integrated into your press kit.

It would be especially advantageous to distribute a press release in conjunction with the scheduling of some special event, like your store’s grand opening, a special deal being offered, or an exciting event taking place.

Writing a press release is simple; it always follows the same basic outline. Place the words “For Immediate Release” in the top left corner of the press release if it can be featured by the media at any time. “For Release After [insert date]” should fill the same spot if you want to time the press release with an event and thus require that the timing be specific. Afterwards, mention your contact information.

The body of the press release follows. This contains information that you want to make public. Keep press releases at two pages or less. If it does include a second page, make sure that the word “more” appears at the bottom of page one. The press release should end with three pound signs (###).

As you write the body of your press release, keep it focused, clear, and concise. Try to answer the five basic questions who, what, why, where, and when. Who are you, and what, exactly, are you promoting? Why is your target market interested in this? When and where is this taking place?

After preparing a press release, get it into the hands of local media like newspapers, magazines, television stations, and radio stations. Consider your target market and make sure they will be exposed to the information in your press release. Press releases that advertise an event for a specific date need to get to the media early enough to be publicized before the event occurs.

Do all you can to make your public exposure complete. That means taking advantage of Internet talk radio programs, newswire services, and other online media outlets.

How To Drive Traffic To Your Website With More Content

August 14, 2008

by Theo McLanahan

In the online world, the more writing you do for your website, the more traffic you can expect to draw to it. Let me people know about your website by means of your writing. The writing you do can include press releases, blog postings, and any kind of content your website contains.

Many website owners benefit from following the ‘content of king’ concept with their websites, attracting as many viewers as possible by providing as much useful content as possible. People who have already found some information on your website will be more likely to return for more and search engines will be more likely to bring up your content if you are constantly adding to your information and article storehouses.

The articles that you write do not have to be exclusively for use on your website. You can also write articles and submit them to online reprint directories. When website owners and bloggers from other sites post an article they found in a reprint directory that you have written, the “about the author” box at the end of the article will point readers to your website by means of a link that you insert. This will thus expose a very large number of people to your website.

Another way to boost web traffic to your website by writing is to start a blog. Use your blog posts as an opportunity to gain an expert status with your readers. You can also advertise new content on your website by means of your blog. During one of your several weekly blog posts, mention new content and add links to your website so that readers can easily locate the information you are encouraging them to look at.

A press release is a way to get free publicity through the media. The purpose of a press release is to give the media, usually newspapers, information that is useful, relevant and interesting. Don’t stop with ‘paper’ newspapers also include online newspapers in your press release distribution.

Even if you have absolutely no experience in doing it, writing a press release does not have to be difficult. Consider the following recommendations for press release writing.

Include your name, URL, address and phone number at the top of the page. The words ‘press release’ should be centered, in bold, and in all capital letters under that.

Below that, print the name of the person you want the press release to go to, and the release date for the information. If the information can be released at any time, you can use the words ‘for immediate release’.

The press release should have some sort of title and answer who, what, where, when, why, and how. When you have finished the body of a press release, you should type three pound signs (#) in the center of the page after the last line of typing. Mailing out press releases on paper with your company’s letterhead is another great idea.

How To Land The Perfect Career

August 14, 2008

by Chris Channing

It’s human nature to have a yearning for being well endowed- but few of us make it to the riches we dream of simply because they aren’t landing the careers they should be. If you’re looking to better your income and get a higher paycheck each month, there are a few guidelines to follow to make sure your future is going to be very bright indeed.

Most would think that building a perfect resume and sending it to the employer would be the first step- but it’s actually the second! The first step into landing a good career is to have plenty of educational credentials, references, and if possible an internship or some form of work experience. Only after all of these things are obtained should one fill out a resume- otherwise it will be left bare.

Resumes should be short and to the point. Giving an employer a 10-page report on one’s life history is going to quickly cause them to throw the short novel into the trash without even glancing at it. Also note that drawing attention to the resume by using colored paper, perfumes, or even colored inks is a straight ticket to failure. Keep it simple and to the point- nothing more.

The interview process of the job is where most fail, simply because they aren’t sure how to handle themselves. If you haven’t had experience in job interviews, it’s highly recommended you work with a professional before going to the interview. Professionals can clue you in on advice such as answering “ice breaker’ questions and even what job interviewers are looking for in the fabled “What’s your worst characteristic” question.

An employment agency should be the next stop if one doesn’t seem to be getting it right. If you’ve failed multiple times and need a hand, an employment agency will be able to give some advice on what you’re doing wrong. They can also give leads to jobs that employers consult them with. Either way, an employment agency is a valuable tool for the unemployed.

Above all else- keep in mind first impressions are going to determine how someone feels about you. Read your resume and see if you’d hire yourself- if you wouldn’t, find some way to improve to make your resume more appealing. And as for the interview, always remember to show up well dressed. If it’s a hot day, still consider wearing slacks and dress shoes to make the impressions.

Closing Comments

Careers can boost one’s power and bank account to new levels- but it won’t be easy obtaining the next high-paying job. It’ll take education, work experience, and “street smarts” on the interview process. If necessary, consult a therapist for tips in being more charismatic and outgoing- and good luck!

Cool Tools and Firefox Extensions for SEO Enthusiasts

August 14, 2008

by Amy Nutt

There are so many free tools and software programs for SEO enthusiasts that it almost becomes overwhelming and difficult to grasp the “right” tools to use in your SEO efforts. Everyone has their own personal preferences which makes this predicament even more perplexing.

Well enough about me and my love of words; let’s get down to business: What are some of the best free SEO tools on the web?

Cool Tools

Google Keyword Research Tool: When this free tool came out the other week we all had a little dance party in the office we were so excited! Well to be honest? there wasn’t any dancing involved but it sure did give us a reason to celebrate :)

This tool is amazing! Simply type in your keyword and you can see a long list of related keywords with approximate search volumes for those keywords as well! You can even customize the results with this tool: everything from the location (country) of your keyword results to finding out which month had the highest search volumes. For more information on how to use this keyword research tool check out this great article.

This free keyword research tool immediately replaced my other keyword research tools by Wordze and SEO Book after just one test use: that’s how powerful it is. In short, the tool rocks and it instantly makes keyword research way easier and much more efficient!

HTML Playground: This tool is great for those that have limited HTML knowledge or just aren’t sure how to apply the right formatting in an easy and efficient manner. Well this free tool takes all the “hard work” out of HTML coding for you. It has a list of all the most popular tags; simply click on the tag, customize the parameters and colours you desire and the HTML code is ready to go! It even shows you a preview of what your text or image will look like once uploaded! This tool is simply vital for any HTML rookie or beginner.

Firefox Extensions

There are hundreds of free Firefox extensions readily available at Firefox Add-ons. They have tools and add-ons for just about everything! My favourite Firefox add-ons for SEO are:

SEOpen: This add-on lets you place a toolbar in Firefox to quickly analyze everything from the number of Yahoo! Backlinks to verifying whether the PR of a site is legitimate or not; and that’s just the beginning. I think of it as in all-in-one SEO resource that is absolutely mandatory!

SearchStatus: This nifty little add-on simply lets you display the Google PageRank, Alexa rank and Compete ranking anywhere on your browser. It also allows you to highlight nofollow links and comes equipped with a fast keyword density analyzer. Pretty sweeeeeet!

SeoQuake: This tool is one of the most advanced Firefox add-ons for SEO. Yet it’s perfect for both beginners and advanced users. Basically, SeoQuake displays the parameters for search results and even includes the findings into the search engine result pages ‘SERPs’ for the most popular search engines. You can then set these parameters to display by ascending or descending order; so you can search for any keyword in Google or Yahoo! and then set the order to show the highest PR’s, or the most Yahoo! backlinks, or by whatever parameter(s) you are most interested in.

And now, my favourite Firefox add-on is…(insert drum roll)… Speed Dial!

This add-on lets you visually display your most used websites so you can access them instantly! Forget about using bookmarks ever again! Simply open up the add-on and enter the number of columns and rows to determine the amount of sites displayed in your speed dial. To enter in the sites simply click on the boxes and type in the URL’s.

When you want to access your favourite sites simply hold CTRL and press the number of the site (number set in speed dial options) to open it up in a new tab or window. Or you can press the speed dial button which displays all your sites in one window and then you can just click on the site you want to open. Once you get the hang of this add-on you can instantly access your favourite site(s) with just a couple of clicks: saving you both time and effort! It’s a win-win situation like no other!

These cool tools and Firefox extensions are really useful and can dramatically improve your SEO efforts while simultaneously saving you time and improving your efficiency. Be sure to check them out and feel free to share your own favourite Firefox extensions!

The Pros And Cons of PLR Articles

August 14, 2008

by Andy Fah

Everybody can feel very comfortable when they see their web site ready, but when there are empty spaces and they do not know what to write there, the comfort feeling can disappear quickly, leaving room to worry and anxiety. These negative feelings are useless though as there are opportunities like ghostwritten and PLR articles. First you should know very well what you want from your site and then you can decide if you use PLR articles or ghostwriting ones.

Like everything else, both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. One thing for sure, they can give you that comfortable feeling of seeing those empty spaces in your site filled in with interesting web content. Unlike private labels rights articles, the ghostwritten ones are yours to use as you like.

This can be an advantage, but such articles can be more expensive than PLR articles. In addition, you have to find a very good writer. This can be a very difficult job because in most of the situations you cannot check a writer’s skills so you can only use your intuition and hope that you have found the right person to do the job for you.

Having ghostwriter may results to some feelings or thinking that the articles are better of written by you and not by your writer because of its poor quality. Aside from this issue, some ghostwriter still can’t help from stealing content, which PLR article writers don’t, in spite of being aware of the rules and advise to use some article checker like copyscape to prove its originality.

Therefore you must spend time checking articles, which does not happen in the case of PLR articles. On the other hand, these articles can be purchased in packages. They are also written by writers, not by machines, where they have been previously checked by specially qualified staff for this job.

You can as well opt for the possibility to become a member of a PLR articles site on monthly basis. They are not as expensive as ghostwritten ones. To continue with, the content of PLR articles is already written, so you do not need to find a writer or to pass them through copyscape.

You should also know that these articles should be rewritten due to possibilities that other purchasers like you previously owned them and so you cannot send those articles to articles directory anymore. Also, you cannot always expect high quality articles although they are useful in providing you right articles that suits your forte.

It’s easy to get a bit confused to choose the best course of action. Don’t loose hope. Do some research and you will find the private labels rights articles that match your site topics, and with a little luck, they might also be well written. What you need is some inspiration and some good luck! Easier said than done? Well, if you’re impatient to get things going and see your website finally up and running, take some of your time and write your content yourself, or rewrite that PLR articles of yours.

Data Centre Failure

August 14, 2008

by Amy Nutt

There are many reasons in which a data centre can fail. It can be quite frustrating, so it is important to know what those reasons are so that you can prevent them or know what to do when they happen. Because a lot of data centers exist on a site separate from the computers that are retrieving data from them, it is important that data centers continue running. When they go down, all computers pulling from them from various places around a single country or even the world are not going to be able to retrieve any information. Such is true for customer service jobs in which customer information must be retrieved from a secure data centre that resides elsewhere. If that data center is not operating, money is lost because employees are unable to do their jobs and customers become very unhappy that their situation cannot be resolved.

Reasons why data centres fail

Some of the reasons why data centers fail can be prevented and then there are some ways in which they cannot. However, it is important to do what is necessary to ensure as few outages as possible.

Here are some reasons for failure:

- The “wear-in” phase ? This is the point in time in which the data center has just become operational. It is typical that certain things may fail as they are trying to become fully operational. It is like a toddler learning how to walk. The data center has to walk too, so it is good to let it run with minimal use and gradually build until it has gotten its legs. This involves comprehensive testing as the system usage increases in order to fix problems before they become a problem.

- The “wear-out” phase ? This is when the data center is reaching the end of its life. Regular maintenance and care will slow this process, but major parts will eventually wear out. It is ideal to consistently monitor the system in order to predict failure and avoid catastrophe.

- Power failure ? Power failure is devastating to anything that relies on it for operation. It is especially devastating to a data center. That is why it is important to have a generator or two ready to take over in case the power goes.

- Generator failure ? Generators need care too and they need to be tested. Power goes out and generators take over in order to keep the data center running. Generators have been known to go out and cause data center failure.

- Metal whiskers ? If the data center hardware is sitting on a metallic surface, then that metallic surface could grow zinc whiskers. These have been known to cause short circuits, especially in data centres. There are also tin whiskers that grow out from tin and they too cause shorts. Silver whiskers that grow on silver electrical contacts and gold whiskers that develop on gold plated services are also known to cause short outs. Large fans that suck the whiskers in can be used and the elements that produce them can be replaced.

Prevention is key

Prevention is the key to keeping your data center up and running. If any of these elements occur, it is good to stay calm and do what needs to be done to keep the problem from occurring again. If you have experienced generator failure, you may wish to invest in a backup to your main generator. If you?re building a new data center, be sure to use flooring that does not produce any type of metal whiskers that can short out your hardware. By being vigilant, you can ensure that your data center uptime will be at or near 100%.

How to Keep Criminals away from Your Personal Information

August 10, 2008

by Michael Benifez

Identity theft is becoming the fastest growing crime problem in the United States, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Criminals commit identity theft by stealing and using the names, addresses, bank account information, credit card numbers, and Social Security numbers of almost 10 million Americans each year, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Learning about how thieves can get your information is the first step in protecting yourself from becoming an identity theft victim.

At the Corporate Level

The biggest headlines about identity theft tend to happen when thieves hack consumer databases and steal hundreds - or even thousands of names. Thats not the only way that identity theft can happen at the corporate level, however. Outsiders can con or bribe an employee to get information. Identity theft can also happen from the inside. This happens when an insider, like an employee or a contractor, gets hold of credit reporting information and confidential personal data. Insiders also can steal information from the employers trash or files.

At the Personal Level

Identity theft doesn’t receive as much publicity when it happens to an individual. The number of ways it can happen at this level, however, are just as distressing as when it happens to a corporation. The simplest method for a criminal to get your information is from stealing or finding your wallet, digging through your trash, or looking over your shoulder as you use the ATM.

There also are more complex ways to get your information. More sophisticated methods criminals may use include looking for the information of people who have died recently, stealing your mail, or getting your credit card information through ’skimming’. ‘Skimming’ involves using an electronic device to steal your information. This can happen when you use your credit card to buy something, and the person uses a skimmer to access your information. This device also has been found on some ATMs.

Criminals also may try to get your information through phishing. This is one of the methods that receives the most publicity for identity theft. Phishers will create a website that looks like the site of a legitimate business, and then send out e-mails to try to lure people to enter their personal data on this site.

After Your Identity Is Stolen

After stealing your personal data, the identity thief will start using your identity and will pose as you. Less experienced criminals will go on a spending spree with your credit cards, will open new cards in your name, and may write checks or open cell phone accounts.

More sophisticated thieves won’t just steal your money. They’ll use your identity to do anything they want and get anything they need. These criminals will get personal identification, like a driver’s license or Social Security card, and use it to take out loans, open bank accounts, and get out of making payments on debts that they created in your name. To make things even worse, some of these criminals will use your name and identity when they are arrested.

The Best Defense

Although nobody is entirely protected from identity theft, there are precautions you can take to help reduce the chances that you will become a victim.

1. Protect Your Social Security Number

Your Social Security number is the most important piece of personal information you have. Never print your Social Security number on any form of personal identification, and never have it pre-printed on your checks. Don’t carry your Social Security card with you, and try to avoid using your Social Security number to identify you. Even though may agencies and organizations ? like colleges, medical providers, and your employer - request that you give them your Social Security number, reconsider whether you want to give it to them. It’s impossible to tell who will have access to that number.

2. Protect Your Mail

You can help make your mailbox less attractive to criminals by reducing the amount of unsolicited offers (like credit card offers) that you get in the mail. You can opt out of credit card offers and insurance offers by calling 1-888-5OPT-OUT or by logging on to www.optoutprescreen.com. You can choose to opt out for five years or to permanently opt you. Shred offers you do receive before you throw them out.

Cancel mail delivery when you go on vacation. Mail sitting in your mailbox can be attractive to criminals both those who want to rob your house and who want to steal your identity.

Also protect your outgoing mail. Put mail in a secure mailbox like the blue U.S. Postal Service boxes and don’t leave it in your mailbox at home. Don’t include information in any mail that someone could steal and use against you. For example: Only write the last four digits of your account number and not the whole thing. Your creditor can identify your account with those last four numbers, but they won’t help a criminal steal your identity.

3. Protect Your Trash

Many things that you throw out - including credit card offers, bank and credit statements, bills, and ATM receipts have your personal information. Thieves can collect this information and use it for identity theft. You can minimize the chances of this happening by shredding your mail before you toss it. You should also cut up old credit cards before putting them in the trash.

4. Be Careful on the Telephone

You may receive calls from high-pressure callers who promise you a fabulous vacation at an unbelievable price, all in exchange for your personal information. Remember that you should never give personal information over the phone if you did not initiate the call. You can limit the number of this type of phone call by joining the national Do Not Call registry. You also can simply hang up anytime you receive a call for something that seems too good to be true.

5. Protect Your Computer

Don’t respond to unsolicited requests for information; your bank will not e-mail you to get personal information. Protect your computer with a password and change it often. Don’t share your password with anyone, including your friends and loved ones. You also may find it helpful to run a Google search periodically for your name and the last four numbers of your Social Security number. What you might find may surprise you.

6. Protect Your Wallet

Write “Photo ID Required” or something similar on the backs of your credit cards instead of signing them for additional protection of identity theft. It will be more difficult for a thief to buy things with your stolen credit cards if you do this. You also should copy everything in your wallet and store the information in a secure location like a home safe or a filing cabinet. If your wallet is lost or stolen, you?ll have all the information you need to cancel your credit cards.

7. Protect Your Deceased Relatives

Unfortunately, even the dead are not safe from identity theft. When a loved one dies, you should get at least 12 copies of the official death certificate. Use this to notify all banking institutions, insurance companies, and creditors that your loved one has died. Make sure to remove the person’s name from all joint accounts.

You also should contact the credit reporting bureaus and request a “deceased” alert. This will put a notation on your loved one’s credit report that they have died and cannot be issued a line of credit.

8. Report Any Suspicious Activity

You should review your credit reports at least once a year and contact creditors and the credit bureaus immediately if you see anything that looks suspicious, including information that is incorrect.

Contact the police if you ever suspect that someone has made an attempt to steal your identity. You should file a police report and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. You can contact the FTC at 1-877-IDTHEFT.

What’s Next?

Having your identity stole can be devastating and frustrating. Identity thieves are skilled at finding potential targets and using that information to hurt you. You must stay alert and knowledgeable to protect yourself from such thieves.

Best Ways To Sell A MLM Home Business Over The Internet

August 10, 2008

by Sean Hagon

Like it or not, MLM is a business of sales. The advantage is that we are each our own unique salesperson.

So you are now saying to yourself that you are not a salesperson. Ever been on a job interview? You sell yourself to get the job. Ever been married? You sold your husband, wife or life partner on something or they would not have made the commitment. Even if you are not married, you are still selling something to people in some way that you may not even know that you are doing. It’s just a part of who you are.

To be direct, even though there are natural and gifted salespeople, the simple fact is that selling and sales is an easy skill to acquire and learn. By using the Internet as a tool, it becomes a great way to sell yourself and a simple way to reach a large population. Here are some of the best ways to sell your home business mlm opportunity on the Internet:

1. Believe in the product you are selling. If you are simply selling a product that you don’t believe in or are not passionate about just to make a quick buck, you are seriously wasting your time and setting yourself up for failure. You then become untrustworthy by others.

2. People buy from people they trust and also like. They are not just simply buying the product. A customer or prospect needs to feel comfortable and be able to trust the person they are dealing with. Establish this relationship first or you will be unable to communicate effectively with your customer or prospect. People want to know they are dealing with a real person and not being scammed. You can achieve this by placing your picture on your webpage or capture page which puts a personal touch on things. This also sets you apart from others who may be selling and marketing the same product with an identical website to yours. So setup your own personal website which is linked to your home business website to make you stand out from the rest.

3. Using audio on your website is a great feature as well. This can be achieved by placing a welcome message or inviting someone to give you a call about your home business opportunity in case they have any questions. This is a time for you to share your experiences about the business with a possible prospect as well. You should always provide a phone number, email and/or contact info on your site so they can reach you.

4. Another effective method and best way to sell your home business on the Internet is through video. This approach is similar to audio but with a visual attached. You need to make sure that your video presentation is professional in its appearance and is well produced. Most movie programs on your home computer can do this job very easily and well. Put some time into the video so that it doesn’t look generic. If it’s not professional in quality, chances are you won’t make that personal connection with your prospect. In fact, it may be a turn off. So again, put forth some effort. Ask yourself why “B” movies are “B” movies?

5. Avoid the typical sales pitch. Many people who use the Internet are simply in the information gathering stage when they are looking for the MLM or home business opportunity you are marketing. Want to turn a prospect away? Give them a sales pitch! Providing direct and basic information regarding your opportunity will go much further than “So will you buy from me now?”

There are many other effective methods, but these are some of the best ways to sell your MLM home business over the Internet. If you follow these tips and techniques correctly, you will achieve great results with your home business.
