Duplicating Web Sites: Are They A Scam, Or For Real?

by Brett Smith

It’s always been a drive for people to be their own bosses, but the Internet makes this even easier than ever. To this end, they’re turning to the Internet to do just that. Whether you want to start a multilevel marketing venture, participate in affiliate marketing, or start your own independent business, the Internet is what you need to generate traffic to your site. This, in turn, will lead to sales. There are many different ways you can do this. One way that is often touted as an easy way to make money is to use self-replicating web sites. However, these are scams. Don’t fall into the same trap as so many others have and get taken over by something you’ll ultimately not be able to control.

If you’re in business for yourself, this means that part of the attraction is that you have control over what happens to you, right? However, self-replicating web sites are absolutely identical to hundreds or thousands of others, because they’re given to every other member of the same program you’re involved in. The only difference between your page and any other affiliate’s is that your e-mail address and your affiliate number are going to be different. People erroneously buy self-replicating web sites because they think that it will help them increase traffic and increase their Web presence. However, if you use one of these sites, you are actually hurting your marketing program. Why?

A few years ago, self-replicating web sites actually were a legitimate business opportunity. You could get your name, service or business more visible because your page rank was higher so that when someone did a search on a particular service or product using your keywords, bingo. Your site came up. However, search engines caught onto this very quickly and decided that this type of visibility was not fair to other struggling entrepreneurs like you.

Therefore, the search engines started to penalize sites that submitted content that was a precise match to that of another site that had been previously indexed in a given search engine. And in fact, search engines are still thinking of ways to continue to rid the Internet of replicated web sites. This means that if you have one, you’re not only losing page rank, but probably a lot of traffic as well. This means that a lot of potential sales are gone before they ever get to you.

Now that you have a better understanding of why the search engines don’t want your self replicating site, let’s explore why you shouldn’t waste your money or time with one. First, a self replicating site can not be managed by you. There is no way for you to improve or test the site. You have no way to alter the site or ad any other types of advertising to them. Unfortunately there is also no way for you to track you page. Instead of setting up a plan for success you have plotted a path of failure committing what we like to term internet suicide.

There are better options out there for your business. Whatever you do you’re going to need targeted effective search engine advertising. Don’t do anything that could hinder that.
