Face-Off Over Facebook: Friend Adder Marketing on Web 3.0

by Sam B. Goldberg

It’s just a tiny over 3 years old, but only recently has it seen its status and fame grow and grow. The emblem of Web2.0 / Web 3.0 and the semantic web movement, Facebook is the internet social networking site that’s suddenly sizzling with activity – and naturally, the powers-that-be are beating down the door to get their share of the marketing dollars to be had.

The massive three internet companies – Google, Yahoo! and huge mama Microsoft – were alleged to have had an all-out bidding war to buy just a small stake of Facebook’s big success. The one who got the win was Microsoft – coughing up and incredible two hundred and forty million dollars for only 1.6 percent of the company. That purchase knocked up the value of the site’s parent company up to a total of fifteen billion!

What was behind paying that large a price for so tiny a share? The answer lies with the vast majority of Facebook’s users, who are the next generation of personal users. Microsoft does not want to lose its claim on them – especially with Google’s relentless marketing maneuvers over the past few years dominating the on the internet field. So the company that Bill Gates built has no choice but to show Facebook the money.

Of course, Facebook is also a huge winner, as the company continues to grow at an exponential rate. Within the next year, Facebook’s workforce will double as it pushes beyond North America and Western Europe and sets its sights on world domination. A new advertising system is also reported to be in Facebook’s future, because, according to Facebook chief revenue officer Owen Van Natta, “We were very fortunate to have a lot of folks interested in a partnership with us around advertising.”

Why is all the large marketing buzz suddenly swirling around Facebook? Well, when your numbers show a 50 million active member base, with a growth rate of 200,000 new users a day, that tends to get world wide web marketers’ attention. There’s also a prestige factor as Facebook is looked at as a poster boy for Web 3.0 technology – a standalone on the internet operating system that has nothing to do with Windows or Apple. Beyond that, there are the five thousand plus free Facebook applications that make interacting on the site so much fun – at no cost. You can have your own vehicle, post pics, videos and songs you love, send other Friends hugs and tons of other activities contained in all the Facebook tools at your disposal.

Obviously, if heavyweights like Microsoft and Google are fighting over Facebook, they’re convinced there’s a huge marketing opportunity to be had on this site. That means smaller internet marketing firms and individuals aren’t going to want to be left out in the cold. And they don’t have to be.

What it does involve is new, ground-breaking Facebook marketing software that can deliver anyone’s marketing message to the sea of users just waiting for something new to happen. The Stealth Friend Bomber, Facebook Edition is one such software package that works automatically as a Facebook Bot to send Mass Friend requests, Mass Friend Messages and Mass Friend pokes. It’s a Facebook Friend Adder that takes the work off your shoulders and lets you get on with your business.

It’s clear that Facebook is the battleground for both the next level of technology and the next level of marketing on the internet. The marketer with the best set of software tricks has the ideal shot at reaching the denizens of this highly-desirable and thriving on the internet community.
